Making coffee is closely linked to being a woman in Ethiopia. When making coffee with the jebena, the youngest woman in the family is always the one who initiates the process. Making coffee in the jebena is also a distinctly social event, where families socialize during the time it takes to prepare the beans and make the coffee.
